eBay alternatives: is there any real competition?

After seven years of trading on eBay I'm ready to hang up the gloves. I am getting tired of their exhuberant fees and the lack of support for the sellers.

I have looked at Ubid and Yahoo auctions. Ubid was probably designed by a team of monkeys, I have not seen more unintuitive and unfriendly layout since AOL 1.0 days. Yahoo seems to be more user friendly, but it seems like that place is always empty.

If you have experience selling elsewhere, please share. Your likes and dislikes, fees, seller/customer support, etc....

Without any fees, I think the scamming is just going to get worse. Without listing fees, there would be nothing against putting out hundreds or thousands or *gasp* millions of fake auctions.

There's already enough overpriced listings on eBay from companies without a clue that never sell anything - it'll only get worse if fees are reduced or eliminated. There are times where it's difficult searching through hundreds of overpriced items just to find the 10 or so sensible auctions. And you can't give the defense "if people don't bid on them they wouldn't be there" because they don't buy them, and yet they still come back.

Fees aren't always a bad thing, in my opinion, it really encourages sellers to make their listings more attractive to buyers. I don't use eBay much anymore, but if GBuy has no fees, no doubt I'd be putting everything I've got up at a high price and just let it sit there until someone bites.
