ebay advice

I sold a brand new item on ebay and the buyer sent this email just now.

Hi,

I received the package today as planned. Thanks.
The box however, misses the original UPC and sernial number barcode. That is not really what a brand new unit is. I bought many things on e-bay from several people that sell the stuff new. The original UPC and serial number barcode is needed for the mail-in rebate offer that HP is making.

Could you please correct this or I'll be forced to complain about this.

Thanks.

I do not have the UPC for that item but can buy the same item from the store and send him the UPC. Although he says he bought several things on ebay, he has only one positive rating. any thoughts???

I sent him an email saying that a store identified receipt is needed for the rebate and. he still wants the upc.

Did you specify that the UPS code was missing? You really should have.
Was the box sealed, brand new?

If you did not specify that it was not there, he had every reason to expect it would be.

Tell him to piss up a rope. If the item has never been used its new. It can even be without its package, its still new.

HOWEVER, in the future if you are taking rebates yourself and selling, you may want to say it is "Not eligable for Rebates" or something like that.

yup.. if you need to specify in your post that the UPC was missing. The only way out I see is to refund him the money that he would've received from the rebate.

when I mean way out is the only way to avoid negative feedback.

hmmm. i did not mention that the upc code was missing. yes, hte item is never opened in the manufacturer sealed box.

THis begs the question, what happened to the UPC code from the package?

he turned it in for a rebate

Though, Im curious as to how the buyer would be able to get a rebate anyways without the receipt?

not sure about the buyer but you can "fake" receipts. Editing an amazon order page works sometimes, not that I've done it before.
