Out of curiousity, since you seem so opposed to being frugal to save a few bucks here and there, how much do you tip when you go to a restaurant?

McDonalds big mac value meal $2.99-> big mac, fries, coke

Ceasar salad $4.25 -> just the salad

so you may live longer, buy you'll be poorer

This is marketting at work. Beef is a more expensive material than that salad.

well to be fair, there is that chicken breast on the salad and theres not that much beef in a big mac. Also, higher quality (not iceberg) lettuces probably cost more than the fries.

how did you come to that conclusion? i'm not opposed to being frugal at all and i consider myself frugal with many parts of my finances, all im saying is if $2 per meal makes a difference if you are poor or not, either you are not spending your money wisely in other places or you need to find a better paying job.

i tip according to service, if it was good i will leave 18-20% if its just ok i leave 12-15% and if it was bad i wont leave anything

Doesn't the Big Mac have a quarter pound of 100% beef?

It's a damn shame that meat costs less when meat takes so many more resources to manufacture. Subsidies??

It's more the fact that McDonalds sells a million billion burgers a minute, and like 5 salads a week. Of course they are going to be more expensive. They produce far far more burgers than salads.

I don't know......I often see the quarter pounder being more expensive than the big mac though, so thats what i'm basing it on I guess.

I'm just sayin, in a lot of these threads you tell people that they need to quit being so modest with their money. That's easy for you to say, working for Amazon for who knows what salary, but that is a big deal to some people on this board. $2 a meal = $6 a day = nearly $2000 a year.

How much do you spend on your video card? Your monitor? etc. $4.25/meal is not that much money.

I wouldn't count on the "salad" actually being either salad or healthy. In fact I'd bet against it. I remember looking at Taco Bell's nutrition info about 10 years ago and the "salad" was the highest fat content item on the menu.

I've had thousands (literally!) of meals in front of that monitor. It was about $275. And part of JEDI's point is that $4.25 does not get you a meal unless you are an extreme anorexic. It's JUST a salad.

I can get a burger, cup of chilli, and a side salad from Wendy's for $3.15 out the door -- It's filling enough for me for lunch and while not a completely healthy meal is not on the same level as the whopper/big mac meals either.

Solution is simple. It's really pathetic when someone tries to save money by cutting down on food. Without food, your body would stop functioning, your health would fail. Get your priority straight, stop wasting money on non-essentials, do you really need that $300 video card or that $500 monitor?

Learn how to manage your money and stop abusing your body!

Rice- $2.00 for a weeks worth

Beans/legumes- cheap $1
Milk- $1.50-$2 a gallon
Fruits/vegetables- Broccolie/green peppers, apples, oranges- $6 for a weeks worth
Tuna- $2 for a weeks worth of lunches

you wanna show me a thread where i've told people how to spend their money period, let alone haphazardly? i don't think i have ever done it. All i'm saying here is that if you cant find $4 a day more for healthier food then a big mac meal, your spening your money poorly no matter how much you make.

I wish they had more fresh cities around. They have them at some of the service areas on the mass pike and they are great. For $6 and change you can get a salad wrap with tuna or some other meat. Delicious and so long as you have a towel, napkins, bib or something can be eaten while driving.
