It's a silly fad to artificially increase the monetary value of a dish without actually providing anything that will affect the flavor or portion size. It's like serving a club sandwich with a diamond encrusted toothpick through it.

Metallic gold will pass right through you unchanged so it is pretty pointless to eat it.

Edit: I guess you could get it into solution if you chased it with a cyanide solution but that has a downside.

A royal water chaser might also work 😉

Many years ago I was at an event that had French champagne and gold food. Drank it, ate it.

i fail to see how adding gold improves any food or drink recipes.
It is better used for its practical purposes.
I have had goldschlager since one of my dumb friends back in the 00s was a fan of everything schnapps. It was not particularly good.

I guess you've never heard of Goldschläger. (BurnItDwn and lxskllr beat me to it.)

So I didn't read this whole thread, but should we be looking for the toilets of rich people from long ago so we can sift through their turds in hopes of finding some embedded gold? If a turd is 200 years old, is it really that gross - by that time hasn't it already been changed through natural action into dirt or a rock or some shit like that?

One restaurant we went to in Dubai had the schtick of selling a $100 burger with gold flakes and a $350 steak with gold flakes. Seemed really stupid to me, but I guess that's just opulence. No, I did not sample the merchandise.

I mean I get it if the goal is purely to add aesthetic appeal to a dish, who am I to get in the way of food artistry, but it does kind of blow my mind that people will eat and shit out gold. I'm not sure there is another mineral we would eat in its purely elemental form.
