Eating coffee grounds?

Is consuming coffee grounds bad to do? Coffee is so expensive, and I figured I could use fewer grounds and just put them in a cup with water or milk, heat it, and mix it well. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Uh...sounds like you can't afford coffee. If you're pinching pennies that much, skip the coffee.

why not just buy a pod brewer, such as the Senseo or even something higher-end like the Cuisinart SS1 single-serve coffeemaker............ buying pods comes out to about $0.20/cup and each cup is fresh............. Or something like a Keurig kcup brewer, but those capsules run ~$0.50-$0.60/cup............ read all about these types of machines, if you want:

I ate coffee grounds when I was 5. That incident is why to this day I can not stand the taste of coffee. I wish I did, because it smells great.

yea true you really can't stretch coffee by doing that. over extraction leads to nasty tasting coffee, not everything in the ground is good. is folgers that expensive? 7-9bucks for like 40oz cannister or whatever, sometimes 5 bucks on sale

Fritzo - same here, but different turnout. Maybe I didn't get quite the exposure you did. Anytime I made coffee for the folks I'd chew on a few grounds (1/8 teaspon maybe? Not a lot).

just buy instant coffee.

How is that even worth it? Drinking grounds tastes bad because you feel all the grit. If you don't want to use a coffee maker just get instant coffee.

how is eating or putting coffee grounds in coffee or milk (yech) any different than simply brewing it? same exact thing, and the coffee costs the same.
a cheap coffee maker can be had for $20. Is that so much to ask?
you couldn't really use THAT much less coffee if you choose not to brew it. And making a cup or two a day, a canister of coffee will last a long time.

if youre going to sam's you might as well get the Marquis de Paiva coffee.
my boss buys it for us and its really quite good for coming in a bigass bag. I dont know how much it is though. It's probably more than 5.00.

...cheaparse much? Seriously though, it shouldn't be bad for you. They actually do make instant coffee like that where all you do is stir in. I have a pod brewer though and find that it is pretty cheap/convenient to use. You may have better luck there. Besides, I've come across a few cooking recipes that require coffee grounds. Sounds odd, but it goes pretty well to choclaty things to give them an extra kick. There was this recipe in my Fiancee's cookbook called "Fudgy Cappachino Crinkles" that required coffee grounds in the batter. Very tasty. Heck, some people even put just a little bit of them in their chocolate milk in the winter. What about people eating chocolate covered espresso beans? I see those at coffee shops everywhere. So no, they shouldn't be bad for you....unless you really do want to sleep. :-/

All I remember is this bitter sand taste that made me start gagging violently. I can instantly taste the tiniest bit of coffee in anything...I just plain don't like it I have to drink Coke or OJ in the morning.

If eating chocolate covered coffee beans is ok.........I guess the grounds cant hurt you either..........I'm only guessing here.
