I feel crappy after eating a bowl of pho that was about 12" in diameter and 6" tall. Granted it was only 5.50$, but, geez, this stuff makes you wanna drink water like crazy.

Anyone know any remedies to clear this up, short of crapping myself to death and vomiting?

you could stop eating pho.

pho is perhaps one of the most overrated foods imo. i don't understand why everybody likes it.... give me some good ol' chinese noodles any day over that stuff.

it makes you smelly too.

vietnamese noodle soup with steak, brisket, tripe, flank, soft tendon in a huge bowl filled with broth.

What is Pho?

Pho is to the Vietnamese culture as a hamburger is to the American culture. Although considered a fast food, unlike the hamburger, it is a nutritious, wholesome meal that tantalizes the taste buds just as its warm broth soothes and invigorates the soul.
While pho provides a quick, healthy meal for any time of the day, its preparation is a lengthy process. The pho itself is actually a noodle made from the finest white rice. The pho is then topped with thin slices of beef. The rich, vibrant broth, seasoned with seven different natural spices is produced after long hours of simmering in the choicest beef and bone marrow. This rich, flavorful broth is then poured onto the pho. The dish is then topped with coriander, onions, cilantro and green onions, served with basil, bean sprouts and green chili on the side to create a healthy, delicious, and satisfying meal.

i dunno, i complain a lot :p maybe it's different where you live, but $5.50 here can get you a meal at just about any place (near campus).... maybe not in such a large quantity, but i get filled up. you can get a damn big sandwich from togo's for that kind of money (2 meals for me) :)

but seriously, the smell doesn't bother you? you know that smell... the one that sort of eminates from your general direction after you eat it.... ugh it's so nasty. i always wondered where it came from, until one day i ate pho and smelled it on myself.

Pho breath... There's a place near where I work that used to make a #41.. sliced beef (at least, they called it beef) and rice, with some kind of "fish sauce". I loved that stuff, but they stopped serving it. I used to live on it...

The dish you are referring to is "com suong" or "com thit nuong".. love that stuff. I had one of my Vietnamese female friend of mine show me how to make that "fish sauce" you dip the sliced beef in. If you want to make it, the ingredients are fish sauce, sugar, lemon juice (use lemon juice for best result, not lime) and some chopped red chili. She said there isn't really a set amount of the ingredients, just kinda have to do it by taste.

considering for the most part, the difference between a small, medium, large, extra large is more broth, that's easy.. don't drink too much of the broth..

that makes it sound way better then it is and they dont mention the tripe or the deer hooves or whatever other crap they "simmer" in with the small amounts of beef.
