You don't have to be that smart to be on the right track. A lot of it is just letting go of biases. Which Republicans are better on economic policy?

"The controversy of the moment involves AOC’s advocacy of a tax rate of 70-80 percent on very high incomes, which is obviously crazy, right? I mean, who thinks that makes sense? Only ignorant people like … um, Peter Diamond, Nobel laureate in economics and arguably the world’s leading expert on public finance. (Although Republicans blocked him from an appointment to the Federal Reserve Board with claims that he was unqualified. Really.)

[...]

To be more specific, Diamond, in work with Emmanuel Saez — one of our leading experts on inequality — estimated the optimal top tax rate to be 73 percent. Some put it higher: Christina Romer, top macroeconomist and former head of President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, estimates it at more than 80 percent.

Where do these numbers come from? Underlying the Diamond-Saez analysis are two propositions: Diminishing marginal utility and competitive markets."

Tax the rich, the biggest farce brought about by the elite rich themselves to pretend that they actually are looking to help out the country when it is nothing but a big virtue signaling lie, Oh woe with me my secretary pays more taxes than me, while Warren Buffet counts his billions, and liberals lap it up while pointing the finger at the evil Koch bros.

Here is your $200,000 dollar tax bracket in 1969 @70% if you are married, it hits you at $100,000 if your single.

Except our concerned liberals who always like to point out about the 70% tax rates and how great they were back in the day conveniently forget to point out how the richest in the country avoided paying taxes all together back then.

In extreme cases, individuals enjoyed large economic incomes without paying any tax at all. This was true for example in the case of 154 returns in 1966 with adjusted gross incomes of $200,000 a year (apart from those with income exclusions which do not show on the returns filed). Similarly, a number of large corporations paid either no tax at all or taxes which represented very low effective rates.[30]

So what was different back then?

Well for one, the factories were located in the USA which meant they had to pay property taxes that funded the schools and local governments, they paid pensions and benefits, social security, payroll taxes, insurance, also unions with their ability to keep America's middle class moving upward instead of a race to the bottom as well as those workers paying taxes instead of receiving handouts from the taxpayer in the form of welfare,

sales taxes on all non resalable items purchased for those factories to do business, local suppliers and contractors that provided those businesses and factories with the goods and services to keep running and themselves paying taxes and their employees paying taxes,

and of course all them Democrat voting uneducated deplorables making living wages back then that today's new age brainwashed identity politics, SJW, liberals who are taught to look down upon as not being worthy to earn more than them like they do now in some UAW factory,

because they don't have that elite college degree with the 100,000 dollar student loan attached to it.

You know class warfare to keep the country divided so the rich can keep looting using the same philosophy that Lyndon Johnson used to continue and promote racial frictions and disparities for the rich to get richer.

President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

But going back to the 1970s, the rich who didn't like paying taxes on their income also didn't like paying backdoor taxes through all the associated costs of made in America which actually was the greatest equalizer in wealth distribution that actually worked.

So in came Reaganomics, free trade agreements, trickle down, Mr. profit only matters Nobel economic laureate Milton Friedman, and let's not forget the esteemed Jack Welch who wanted to put factories on barges and ship them to the country with the cheapest labor (and in a round about way he got just that by having cheap goods shipped on barges from cheap labor countries) and the damage his way of thinking has done to the USA,

all the associated philosophy that has resulted in the imbalances you see today are taught as gospel in many of our elite schools of international relations and business.

Way to completely misunderstand that quote. LBJ was specifically referring to how actual racism was used to keep poor whites voting for those who did not have their interests at heart. He was actually working against it not promoting it during his administration.

Doesn't it make more sense that the real cannibalism of babies is coming from those who don't care what kind of world we leave for our children?
Or that a real way that the rich get richer is by pitching pseudo-capitalist garbage that they have some kind of right to externalize their environmental costs onto everyone else, including future generations?

My suspicion is that he understands full well what he wrote.

tis' true no matter how much the lefties here want to stick their head in the sand.

The fact is this: Elite rich people avoid taxes. Upper, Middle, and Lower classes can't avoid them.

This is why your European counterparts have the lowest corporate taxes in history, and the highest consumption (consumer) taxes.

But hey - if you just hike those rates up enough I'm sure it will all work out just like... that one time... oh wait there wasn't a time where that worked? Oh well, lets act like it did.

I don't think self reflection is his strong suit.

The fact that you guys prop up this freshmen congresswoman fresh off the bartender role as some pedestal of high intelligence tells me all I need. This is clearly someone that knows nothing of global economics or how to run a country in the slightest. Everything is always just write a check for it.

And again: what is your excuse?

and no, it is never "just write a check for it." No one can help you if that's all you want to hear. If you want to honestly listen to democrats' proposals, then go for it; but stop blatantly misrepresenting everything on what you claim to be "a high level of understanding" as some off-hand example of being a moderate, when it's only ever clear to everyone that you plainly don't understand what people are saying.

Does everything have to be politicized with an environmentalist agenda? Can't we go back to the good old days where we ate babies only because the meat is more tender than grownups?
That is the conventional wisdom but new techniques have been developed where you confine the children to a box their entire lives and the result is that most people can't tell the difference between baby or adult.

You clearly have never farmed humans before, people grow far too slowly for that to work. A cow can grow from 50 pounds at birth to 1500 pounds and ready for slaughter inside two years, so fatten 'em up and profit. Humans go from 7 to 70 in 10 years, you'll go broke if you wait that long before harvest. Eat them young!

It's true about the diminishing returns but they have pretty decent growth rates up until 3-4 years of age.

What country has successfully taxed the rich at obnoxious rates that is proportionally well above the rest of the population - knowing that the bottom 50% of the United States pay $0 or less in federal income taxes.

go on. I'm waiting.

When I replied, I thought you meant that it was bad for the economy. But OK. I mentioned before to Jhhnn that this is a problem. It definitely can get better. We had higher effective tax rates decades ago. Other countries do too. Also, it's not really obnoxious when so many at the top make money through passive income.
