Easy Zone Alarm question ???

It seems alot of apps ask to recieve connections from the internet, why is this.

If say I launch IE 5.5 it will ask to "access" the internet. I say yes and the webpage loads. That's fine and all but sometimes it will ask if IE 5.5 can "accept" connections "from" the Internet. I click no and the webpage I'm going to loads fine.

So what is it trying to do when it wants to "accept" connections from the internet.

It does this with several other apps as well as IE 5.5.

Well, there is "Windows Explorer" and "Internet Explorer" that will require access. If you have any "auto-updates" turned on, they will want to call home...

However, it could be a Trojan, Spy-Ware, ect..

If you know a bit about networks, I would suggest you run a "packet-sniffer." I am constantly running mine for security reasons. You might be surprised what you may find 🙁

how about a program sending in information to tell the company that you have a prog installed on the comp, or to validate your registration to make sure you didn't crack the prog?

1) AdAware is a fine product!
2) Ads and banner's go though your IE, mostly on port 80. You already allowed this to pass. It's not ad banners...

I still think it's a programs "auto-update" calling out. Personally, I disable all "auto-update" from programs that offer this option.
