I'm looking for a 4 port USB Hub, and I was wondering what the difference is between powered and unpowered hubs. Why would I need a powerede hub with an AC adapter? I'm connecting a digicam, joystick, printer, and scanner to my laptop.

Thanks in advance,
Nick

for a laptop I would suggest you purchase a powered hub because each of your usb devices consumes power, and when you are running on battery, your lappy may not be able to supply enough power through 1 usb port to power 4 devices.

Definitely go with a powered hub. Hell, there are many laptops that simply won't run any device without it connected to a powered hub because the laptop isn't sending enough juice down the bus. (many Dell laptops are like this) Also, the more devices you connect, the less juice there is to go around and eventually you'll hit a wall. A powered hub should keep the juice right where it should be regardless of the number of devices.
