Easy to crack Winrar passwords?

I want a simple way to secure some files so that casual users can not look at them. It's just personal stuff, nothing super sensitive. Is the protection on Winrar sufficient as long as I use a longer/difficult password?

IIRC WinRAR uses AES128 for it's archive encryption so yes, as long as the passphrase is good you should be fine.

You could also use the opensource 7zip. It uses AES256 for it's encryption (if you use the 7z format) and you have the option of encrypting the file names also (don't know if winrar does that or not).

Thanks. I just checked, and winrar does have an option to encrypt file names for when you set a password.

I don't know if 7zip does this, but I like how winrar can be set to make an sfx archive.
Makes an exe file that can be extracted on any pc without winrar installed.
