Easy Radeon 9000 question

Will it work in a 2x AGP board? I'm getting a new PC soon but keeping my AIW Radeon 7500 and I'll be giving the old PC to my little brother. I was looking at the Radeon 9000 since it's a good price and he doesn't play that many games. The board is an Asus P3B-F.

They should be backwards compatible. It should work with AGP 8x, 4x, 2x, or even 1x. I could be wrong about that but I'm pretty sure it should be fine. It doesn't require the extra connector like the 9700 Pro so the AGP bus should run it fine. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me and give you the correct information.

Yes it will work. I have one, and had it installed in a P3 board running 2X. The card supports 3.3V (2X) and 1.5V (4X) slots. It DOES NOT require extra power via the power supply like its bigger brothers. I will tell you that it is a better card than a GF MX series... but it still stinks in my opinion. This is coming from a current user with the 128MB card. Try loking at a NVIDIA Ti4200. It is a little better than the 9000. That is if you have the extra juice from the power supply. I would suggest at least 300 - 350 Watts if you go for any card that requires extra power.

you can also look into the 9000pro and 9100.
but as TypeM said the Ti4200 would be better, although I'm really familiar with the money-too-short situation

one thing where a GF4MX would work better is GTA3 - so if that's what he's playing, maybe you should consider it too.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. He basically just plays Warcraft III and Diablo mostly so he doesn't need a lot of power. The processor is only a 1Ghz PIII. I'm looking for a budget card in the 70-90 dollar range. Most fo the TI4200 boards look like they go for 170 or so.

What about this... this looks like a good card for only a few dollars more than what you wanted to spend:

It does support AGP 2.0 as well.
