Easy question about cheap receivers

Hopefully a stupid question, but I am looking at the Sony STR-DH520 and Yamaha RX-V371 receivers. I want to use them as HDMI switches for satellite, blu-ray, etc. Apparently for some reason, at least quite recently, low-end receivers were unable to strip audio off the HDMI input, which meant that the receiver was only doing HDMI pass-through, and then either an optical cable back from the TV, or using audio return channel from the TV had to go back to the receiver for the audio. This seems crazy to me. Is this real; do I need to worry about it or can any entry receiver now strip out audio as one would hope/expect?

I'll answer real quick that my RX-V361 handles audio from HDMI just fine... no separate audio cable needed.

If the 361 can do it, I assume the 371 can as well. I believe this is called pass through vs repeater. Repeater is good.

Edit-- On a related note, the 361 and maybe other low end receivers don't transfer Component to HDMI... so if I plug my Xbox 360 into the receiver via component cables... the receiver won't send it through HDMI to the TV. The reciever has a Component OUT that goes to the TV so you would need to switch both devices to the right input/output. Not sure if this is standard for all receivers or available as a higher end feature.

Thanks! Yeah not using anything but hdmi with this. I assume the sony should handle hdmi similar to the Yamaha...
