Easy mutual fund online stock trading question

I just dumped 5k from my summer internship into my ameritrade account. I was wondering if you could buy mutual funds like stocks? I know you usually do it via the actual mutual fund company (i.e. vanguard.com) but can I buy them via my ameritrade account balance? Sorry if this is a stupid question.
