Easy free tool for DVD->MPEG?

I used to use flaskmpeg and some others. They were complicated. Anything easier out now?

EDIT: Ripping's not important, just encoding.

Nothing one-click that I know of off the top of my head.

DVDs are already in MPEG format. If you mean to a slightly less gigantic format, I would suggest TMPGEnc. TMPGEnc comes with DVD2AVI; (some versions anyway. If it doesn't try to find DVD2AVI v1.77) run DVD2AVI on a decrypted set of VOBs, then open the .d2v file in TMPGEnc and encode the video to your specifications. Be warned: the shareware version only has 30 days of MPEG-2 functionality.

DVD2AVI will demux all the audio tracks; if you want to convert to another format, like mp2, you can use BeSweet with the GUI Addon, but there are usually 192kbps Stereo AC3 streams for most DVDs, so you could simply re-use the existing file.

Once you have the audio and video you need to mux them together. Fortunately for your TMPGEnc can do this. (File -> MPEG Tools) It's dead-simple to use, but if you need to do something advanced, like file splitting, it might be a bit unweildy(sp?). Regardless, it'll do the job.

If you want to encode MPEG-2 video I suggest D.I.K.O. It's somewhat limited in format options, but it's free and straightforward to use.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. AVI is fine. I just didn't want to do Xvid or anything because the person I am giving it to may not have the codec.

Erm, I meant XviD or DivX AVI.

It's not that hard to get the codec. It's so small you could include it on a CD with the file.
