Easy CD Creator - no good upgrade path

I have Easy CD V 3.5 - which I somehow got working under W2k some time back. I had to re-install the OS and now I can't get the upgrade files from Adaptec - and they now say they are not supporting 3.5 under W2k. The price for V4 and V5 are about $75 - would I not be better off to buy a new burner (mine is an old 4X Yamaha) and get the software included? This is ridiculous. All guidance appreciated.

Adaptec sold the application to Roxio a while back. Link
If you're a serious burner, I'd recommend you look at a higher level burning software, like Nero. EZCoaster Creator has had quite a few serious bugs with W2K.

Check the Hot Deals Forums. There are some pretty inexpensive 8X (plus) CD-rewriters right now with software included.

I can say I have not created a single coaster using V3.5 with the update patch - and I hear caution about both Nero and Easy CD 4&5 under W2k.

No - if I upgrade I'm going to go as fast as I can get (what is the fastest 16, 20, or 24 X??)

I have no problem with version 4.02 in Windows 2000 with my Plextor 12/10/32A

I used Nero and then went to Adaptec. IMHO Adaptec is by far the best program. Nero is great if you want to have control over every minute feature of your CD-R drive, but if you just want to BURN a freakin CD, nothing beats Adaptec. Pop it in and go, no clicking 50 checkboxes with eroneous names. If you don't know what you are doing it is FAR easier to create a coaster with NERO than with Adaptec. Not only that, but more poeple use Adaptec and DirectCD than Nero, so your CD-RW packet written discs will be compatible in more computers.

Older versions of easy cd work better than the new ones. Nero is NOT compatible with all burners by the way. i have easy cd 3,4,5 and nero among others. i have the best luck with easy cd 4 and win on cd.

Thanks for all the feedback. I went with the Yamaha 20X, as I had good experience with my Yamaha 4X burner, and was able to find it for $215. The fact that Yamaha had swithed and is bundling Nero instead of Adaptec was significant to me. I just burned my first CD - no problem with Nero - incredible speed.
