East Coasters.....check in please "Update 2004 DC"

Same query as before, but now I gotta make reservations. I will be in Philly Oct 10, for a week, then I have four days to see the east coast(for the first time) I wanna see the Atlantic ocean, I wanna see Civil War stuff, I wanna see fall colors. Other than the Statue of Liberty, I don't care to see NY, I will be in D.C. spring 2004, so that's not a concern. Please help me make the most of the four days I have in your part of the world. THANX-

p.s. I can rent a car, ride a train....whatever. Money is not a limiting factor....other than I am WAYYYYY cheap. Thankx again.

I'm Going to be in DC in mid March 2004, I'm thinking about shipping my bike back and spending a week after the convention seeing more of the East. With my m/c, I would be more mobile and could see more.

That being a plan, suggestions for sights within about 4-5 hours of Philly for this year?

If you want Civil War stuff, it's a couple hours' drive to Gettysburg, which is pretty cool.
Revolutionary War stuff is EVERYWHERE, and of course the city is replete with Revolutionary War locales--Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross House, etc.
Definitely go to the beach.
As mentioned before, New Hope PA is a cool place to shop and eat.

gettysburg is really cool, you'd like it. My roomate is from there, we have a good time up there when i visit his house. the battlefeild is really cool

DC is defintly good too.. but since you'll be here next year, i guess you can wait. might want to head up to boston or something like that-- a lot of history there also.

If you are into Civil War stuff then there is a lot to see when you visit DC not the least of which are the battlefields here in Manassas. Also close by to DC is Fort Ward which is a nice example of the perimeter forts that were set up to guard Washington. A bit further away but still within driving distance are Fredericksburg and The Wilderness battlefields.

and if you go see the manassas battlefeild-- i've seen it so many times i can give a tour. used to go there everymonth in elem. school for a feild trip

Go to Boston and see the Birthplace of the USA. Just be prepared to bring a lot of money because they soak the tourists there.

You could always hit Williamsburg. They have ghost tours and all kinds of colonial stuff if that kind of thing interests you.

You're not really missing anything here in florida. It's pretty dull and you WON'T see fall here. The furthest south I suggest going is St. Augustine where they have some beautiful old spanish arcitecture. Very old part of Florida and worth spend at least an hour. But if you only have 4 days...i wouldn't suggest florida at all. We're all about beaches and the nightlife.

starting from philly-- hmm. its tough becuase you only have 4 days. I'd spend a day in philly-- then Gettysburg would be the first place to go after that-- i'd only spend a day there-- then i'd turn around and head towards the coast-- its going to be chilly, so you wont really need to go the beaches- but i'd head towards boston-- that way you can still see the ocean and get to be at a really cool place at the same time

A little change up here, what about starting in D.C. I'm thinking fly into DC rent a car or ride a train to Philly take care of business there then car/train back to DC and rent a car for four days?

no way-- blueridge moutnains, virginia-- on top of that, only 1 hour outside DC.

it'll be cold up there by oct. 10th though. mid october, we get fall colors and still nice weather here
