My old computer uses IDE and my new one, SATA so I can't install the old hdd into the new computer. I've tried this one USB program thing, but the new computer won't recognize the USB drivers for the link cable. I've also tried using crossover cables connecting the two, but that didn't work out well either. Any help?

Can you put the older IDE drive into the new computer? Do you just want to copy some files or do you want an exact image copied to the SATA drive?

So you are trying to connect the two systems to transfer files? By crossover cable I assume you mean ethernet? Make sure you assign both pcs an IP address and that should work fine, assuming file sharing is turned on and you dont have firewall issues.

Are you sure you can't install the old HD in the new system? I have yet to see a SATA only motherboard.

You can also get PATA to SATA converters online to use the old drive in the new system if that really is the case.

you can pick
1) IDE to USB
2) Throw the old drive in the new comp
3) throw the old hdd in a external enclosure

Microsoft File & Setting transfer wizard - In Program -> Accessories -> System Tools..

transfer the files you want, not the crap you dont want.

I'm assuming you have 2 computer, 1 old and 1 new ?

if they're both on a home router or network, disable your firewalls and run the wizard on both PC

You can instal the IDE HD into and IDE slot in your mobo and use a program to transer the files over. In Fact, WD has a program for free to do just that.
