i need a process with the fewest steps....i have a largish library (50+) of dvds i want to store. i've tried gordian knot but even that has a lot of stupid little steps. i just want to set the resolution, output filesize, encoder to use, and sound quality, and push GO

any way to do this??

Get DVDFab. It does it all. Even spans 2 or more disks if needed.

maybe i should be more specific....i need to rip & encode in a maximum of 2 steps (i.e. 1: rip 2: encode)

dvd decrypter just rips i think....

I believe the OP wants to know how to rip and encode into DivX\Xvid or something similar.

Why store that stuff on your hdd when you can just back it up to DVD?

An alternative would be to make SVCDs.

But storing avi's on your PC makes little sense.

TMPGenc has great software to re-encode video for SVCD or DVD.

Why use a whole DVD for a single movie if you can encode them down to fit 5 on a single DVD? This is assuming you're playing them back on a PC.

i'm doing it because my dvds are all in the basement, where the home theater is, in the bookshelf there. i want to be able to watch them in my room/on my laptop wherever i am. so thats why i want to store them on the comp.

mde, yes i want to encode them down (xvid preferably) to 700-800mb

i'm trying dvdfab right now.

Let me know how it goes.

I use DVD Decryptor to rip them, tried Gordian Knot for a while but got out of it. I say just steal 'em, it's the same thing! 😉

Actually many newer players have divx support, although I can't comment on how well they work.

Use AutoGK (Auto Gordian Knot). Like GK, but simplified. Easy to use, and does a good job. Just rip your DVD in IFO mode with DVD Decrypter and then open it up and AutoGK and go from there. I converted a movie to Xvid (700 mb) and I was impressed with the quality. Its pretty CPU intensive though, so its best to have a good processor to use with it.

You 1 and 2 step people are just too lame.

Do it right or don't do it at all.

Yes, I am one of those people that rips using dvd decrypter, frameserves though DVD2AVI, manually sets up an AVI Synth script, and encodes with VirtualDub(Mod) to a mastroska container.

Doesn't get much better.
