a router with the appropriate wires? two nics? which is the easiest and most cheap way? its a cable connection btw.

A hub is actually cheaper, but for the cost difference ($20 at most......as long as its not wireless, then a whole lot more expensive), a router is the best way to go......better throughput.

Get a router and not a switch. You won't be charged for an extra IP and you'll have a pretty good firewall to boot ;)
It's hard to get hit by a worm when the only thing the worm can attack is a little box on the floor that has no real OS on it :D

Agreed and if you get one with a print server, you can also share the printer very easily :)

I bought a refurb router with 4 10/100 ports and wireless 802.11b, for US$35.

Replaced my $200 wireless access point and $200 non-wireless router (from many years ago).

Check the Hot Deals forums for various routers. They all basically do the same thing. Usually the Linksys and Netgears are on sale/can be had for a good price/are popular and generally reliable - but you have to deal with a slew of rebates, coupons, pricematching etc etc etc.
