Would the easiest just be to burn em to cd, then rip em via mp3? I know i'll get some quality loss, but is there any other way?

I'm pretty sure that's the only way. No one has cracked the AAC format to be able to directly convert it to mp3.

could try:

digital player program with AAC > sound card > line output

----> 1/4 inch male-to-male connector wire ---->

< line in < sound card < audio recorder program record to MP3

or burn a cd, yeah

I tried that method with protected WMA's and I really couldn't get a good quality mp3 w/my audigy 2. There is a program out there (don't remmeber what it's called, somene posted it in useful programs thread in software) that does it all.

as a mp3 the files are playable outside the iTunes envelope
Here are the steps.
1. Download HYMN from http://hymn-project.org/ and install it to c:\hymn
2. Create the directory c:\hymn\music\
3. Open iTunes and drag your playlist or files to c:\hymn\music
4. At a command prompt (open a MS dos command prompt window start>>accessories>>command prompt ) go to c:\hymn\ and type:
hymn c:\hymn\music\*.m4p
This will convert .m4p files to .m4a files.
5. Download xilisoft audio converter from http://www.topvideopro.com/mp4-m4a-conv.../m4p-mp4-m4a-mp3-wav-wma-converter.htm and convert .m4a files to MP3.

There're no plugins for winamp and such?
