I have 2 computers, one running Windows XP and the other running 98. I have 2 NIC cards and a hub. I want to be able to have internet access on both computers and also share files and be able to game on a lan. What is the easiest way to do this? Thanks.
What kind of internet connection do you have? I assume you have the straight through cat5 cables? If you have a modem connection... Shame on you... J/K.. XP does have internet connection sharing. Type in proxy server in google and figure it out. Can't really help you there...
Use only TCPIP... What kind of Hub you got? If it's only a 10Base get rid of it. And just buy yourself 1 cross over cable and plug in both nics together.
If you got DSL/Cable. Get rid of the Hub... Buy yourself a cheap Cable / DSL router. LinkSys and Dlink are good for under 50 bucks.... Set up DHCP scope of 50. Turn on DHCP in Windows machines. Problems solved.
Will I easily be able to set up multiplayer games on a LAN with a router? I don't really care about sharing files or printers. I mainly use the second computer for surfing and multi-player gaming.
