Is removing the battery the easiest way to clear an unknown administrator password in bios? I was recently given an old surplused AMD 486 100Mhz unit by HP that I plan to use as a software router running Freesco. It has been wiped clean, but the genius doing it forgot to remove the old administrator pass for access to edit the bios settings. So now I cannot enable the boot from FDD option.....I guess I could remove the HD and install DOS, then reboot and access the a: ....but that is just a workaround. Thnx in advance for any assistance.

PS..cannot use the killcmos proggie cuz cannot boot from floppy at present.

You should be able to just clear the CMOS (which should clear the password) via a jumper on the mobo (even on old 486s).

Yep... Pull power, short (or remove) the battery. "They" say it should only take a few secs to clear CMOS, but I tend to leave it for a few minutes to be safe... easier than having to do it twice! ;)
