Is there a VNC solution that doesn't involve forwarding ports that is free?

Logmein.com has a good solution to remote desktop, which runs a little cleaner then VNC. They have a free version that works with any internet connection. Though you do have to enter through a website. Works with any windows PC, and it can handle multiple computers behind a different firewall. (I assume that is why you would need to re-direct VNC port requests to control different computers behind the same firewall)

If your computer is protected with Firewall (Hardware, Software, or both), in order to be connected from the outside, any VNC or similar program needs at list one port open

The easiest and most versatile VNC (AFAIK) is UltraVNC (Remote + File Transfer + Encryption Module), Ultr@VNC (Remote Control for your Network/Internet) - Installation, and Settings

VNC is all yours, and can be used from the outside with a flash drive that you take with you. It does not depend on any one giving you free, or for pay service.

One additional note to JackMDS's thread above: UltraVNC has a client known as one click that you deploy to the client and it connects to you thus removing the clients firewall from the equation.

Yeah it is neat. I usually do not mention it since it is Not a matter of downloading or configuring yet another file.

You have interactively creating a specific file per connection using the link mentioned above. It is an unpleasant process.
