easiest upgrade solution from 300A@450

I wanna do a processor upgrade that will be as simple as possible (ie not replacing too many parts other than the cpu itself). I currently use an abit bx2 mobo. Any suggestions? Is getting a new mobo inevitable?

I'm running 550E @ 138Mhz x5.5 = 759Mhz using Crucial 1GB PC133 and Matrox G400/CL TNT2 Ultras. You should have no problem. Using Iwill Slocket II and replaced with a Abit Slocket !!!, just took pics last night too.. if you want to see......

If you don't want to replace anything else other than a CPU, I suggest P3 700 @ 7x100Mhz and overclock to 7x112 or so. Since 700s are pretty cheap, and you'll need a slocket & a fan/sink.

How about a 566 celeron at 850? I hear there's a very high success rate, and those chips are CHEAP. You'll need a slocket adapter.

Being that P3 prices are dropping so fast, a 850 is equivalent to a 600 P3.. it's cheap for a reason..

is the celeron that much worse this time around (I love my 300A)? Also, in case you didn't already answer, would I need a new motherboard for a p3-700? My understanding from what you said was that I just needed a slocket. I also have a dual fan heatsink for my celeron, will that do?

You can go upto a P3-850 right now.. but they cost $$. I'm verry happy with my 566 celeron2 for the price.

I upgraded my 300a@450 to a FCPGA 533@800 (on my bh6 rev1.0) ... that upgrade was cheap and easy ...

However ... my other box now is a Duron 700 @ 900 ... and it WASTES the celeron at 800 ...

you could pick up a pIII 750 for around $200 .... and probably be quite successful running 112 (840mhz) or 124mhz FSB (930mhz) .... or even 133mhz (1ghz)if your vid card can take it ..

or for about $20 less you could go with a pIII 700 ...

or for about $30 more a pIII 800 ....

that would be the easiest route to take and probably the least expensive ...
