Is there a free or cheap way to simply convert a MSWord doc to a pdf file?

Do you have some kind of office software installed? LibreOffice has had export to pdf for awhile, and I think modern versions of MS Office do also.

I do have MSOffice. I did not see that feature, but the new office is confusing to me because it is their new cloud wizbang version.

Sweet!
Still installed AskToolbar even though I was careful to say not to. Wierd. Toolbar uninstalled now, I think/hope.

Yup. Make sure you remove both the Toolbar Updater and the Toolbar itself from Add/Remove programs, there are 2 pieces. It rebrands it as the "CutePDF Toolbar" or something when you uncheck the Ask Toolbar checkbox during installation.

Annoying, but it's a great free tool, so I guess I'll put up with it ;)

Also, I always rename the printer from "Cute PDF" to "Print to PDF". That way when people ask "how do I print this to a PDF?", I just say "go into your printers and select Print to PDF" and then I never get asked again :awe:

File -> Save As -> PDF

Word 2013 will even let you edit PDFs. OP - What version of Office do you have?

IIRC when 2007 first came out you had to download the save to pdf separately but I think they rolled it into one of the service packs. Every version since has it baked in.

Hmm I've never had CutePDF install crap if I picked no. Maybe the latest version is different.

If it's 2013. File -> Save As Then you have to pick where you want to save it before the Save As dialog box will open. Then select PDF from the Save as type dropdown.

I'm using PDF24 software on coverting docs to pdf. This is a free software and works really fast. However if you don;t want to download a software, there are sites that offers free online conversion. Mr. Google could help you on that. :)

unfortunately, cutepdf recodes the PDF using graphic language. so pdf's written by cutepdf are big compared to those written by typesetting programs.

if you use cutepdf to extract some pages from a pdf, you may end up with a bigger file size than the original.

I think in Open Office you can just "save as PDF", and OO will allow you to open MS docs. That is perhaps the easiest way I know of, although it will require you to install OO when you might not need it for anything else.
