Earthwatts EA650 for 5850?

So I was wondering if an EA650 Earthwatts was powerful enough (on the amps side) for this build:

i5-760
Gigabyte 5850
4GB DDR3 memory
640GB HDD
etc, etc. Nothing fancy.

I can save over $30 by going with the Earthwatts over the TX650. Is this a good PSU?

I've had far too may Antec PS's fail, so I don't use them anymore. Don't know if my experience is typical but I don't like them.

Get the Corsair.

EA 650 is fine. I'm running a 1055t @ 3.5 with a gtx 260 oc'd to 655/2100 24/7 on seti with an ea 650. I also have 2 corsairs and will say that the corsair is definitely BETTER, but my ea 650 has been perfect.

Having said that, the corsair will probably last you longer and their warranty is great. Also, if you care about noise the corsair is nearly impossible to hear even in a quiet room while the ea650 is somewhat noisy.

edit: re anandthenman's comment, I also have an ea 430 on a q6600 rig running seti 24/7, and it has been running problem free for several years. in fact, my hx 620 failed 18 mos ago while I've never had an antec psu failure. Would I recommend the corsair over the antec if the price were the same? of course I still would, but anecdotal evidence of past failures has little bearing on the currrent earthwatts lineup, especially if those failures weren't of actual earthwatts psu's.

Alright, thanks for the help. It seems the Corsair is a lot better, so I might ultimately just switch the Antec for it after all.

But thanks for the help. The amps on the 650 were my main concern; I heard someone say the 22 amps were too little to power the 5850.

Thanks again. I'll switch to the Corsair.

I would not run crossfire 5850 on the EA650 if you were planning on getting crazy with the overclocking. as for 1 5850 that psu will not even break a sweat.

the EA650 has 3 12v rails with 22,22 and 25 amp ratings. it can do a combined rating of 45 amps which is 540 watts. I have not had a single issue with mine in the two years I have owned it. the Corsair is probably the better psu though if you don't mind spending the extra money.

EDIT: on newegg the Corsair is the same price as the EA650

All the failed Antec's I had were of the Earthwatts variety. I agree that one users experience is not to be taken as an overall judgment of the product. Just passing along my experiences, which were not positive. But as mentioned, the Corsair is a better PS anyway, and whisper quiet, I really like them.

BTW, Antec's return policy is really really good. In fact, the last time they sent me back a better PS than what I RMA'd so credit where credit is due.

22 amps is far more than enough for a 5850 as long as it doesn't have a big overvolt and oc or something.
