i'm parting together a machine for a family member.. (gaming machine, no dell prebuilts)

i'm looking at frys deals atm. gonna be getting

x2 4800+ with M2N-E, $160
VisionTek HD3850
2 gb corsair xms2
should be single HDD

i'm looking at the NSK4480B for the case. $66 shipped from zzf, and gives me a 380w Earthwatts PSU.

The thing is, i've been reading some, and apparently some people have been having trouble with antec PSU's with asus mobo's. the last posted problem i've seen was from dec 2006... but i dont know if the problems got solved, or if they simply didnt exist with the earthwatt series.

any suggestions before i click buy?

There was an issue with Antec PSUs and Asus boards but that was nearly a year ago and has long since been corrected.

Correct. However that issue started back in Q1 2006 with the NeoHE (built by Seasonic) and other high efficiency psu's from Fortron, Seasonic, and Enhance. Since the OP was referring to the EarthWatts, which was released well after Antec/Seasonic addressed the issue, I didn't bother elaborating on the Asus high efficiency issue. If anyone had a problem with Asus mainboards and the EarthWatts psu it was going to be an isolated incident.

Low power system not booting with high efficiency PSU?!

well, i was asking if the earthwatts line had any such issues. i know it was released well after the neoHE's, and i know the neoHE's had a significant problem at launch.

One review at some site i was looking at when i was piecing together this system for recommendation, had a review that said dont use asus boards with antec PSU's. i was just asking if there were any more recent problems.

But it sounds like there arent, so thanks to both of you! :)

on a side note, i think i'm actually gonna get the 430w for 10 bucks more. a little extra headroom never hurt anybody.
