Earthwatts 500W - is it DOA?

Ok so I just got my Antec Earthwatts 500W to replace my faulty Fortron, and it appears to be DOA. When i start it up, the fans start for essentially a millisecond, and then shut off. I tried it in 3 different computers, and the same thing happens.

I am almost positive it is DOA, does this sound right? Is there anything else I could try?

What do you mean by "start it up"? Do you mean just flip the switch on the back of the PSU, or both flip that on and then hit the power switch on the case? The latter is what needs to be done for a full power up.

.bh.

flip the switch on the PSU, then hit the power button on the front of the case. I plugged my old PSU back in and it boots up, so Im basically positive its DOA.

Alas, Antec's Seasonic built units have problems already? Jeez...They just got on track with their NeoHEs...

Ssssst. Don't tell anyone but the NeoHE is a better built unit than the Earthwatts.
I would have an Enhance ENP-xxxxGH or Silverstone Element over any Antec.

The Earthwatts will be offered in combo with some Antec cases and this will be a major
step-up from the SP or TP units.

My fortron had been acting up, it was just causing random reboots in my system, but it ran my system fine for the most part. This PSU got good ratings everywhere, i got it for 45 bucks, and the neoHE was having problems, especially with my motherboard apparently.

But yea, I am on hold with Compusa right now, hopefully they will cross ship it, i doubt it though.

Hrm...

Three flaky PSUs? Sorry, this doesn't pass the smell test!

I think I would start checking that mobo, your cards, and the other components for short circuits, cold solder joints, et cetera... 😉

Well actually, it is just two PSUs, the fortron and the earthwatts, and unless I am completely stupid the earthwatts came DOA.

So Compusa is shipping me a new one, and they pay for my return shipping so that is good, but I dont get issued the refund until they receive everything. We will see how this one goes....
