Two earthquakes

I'm on the 2nd floor of two-story office building and it felt like a regular thumping. Was pretty cool. Lasted about 10-15 seconds.

It's only the third I've ever felt in my life here in Louisville (first was around 1980 and the 2nd was around 1984/5).

Hopefully it will never let loose in a big way. . . because none of the buildings in the area were built in anticipation of earthquakes. There were some quakes back in the 1800's that literally changed the courses of rivers and destroyed entire towns.

Earthquake faults build up seismic energy like batteries, but eventually they have to let it loose. So obviously a bunch of little quakes are better than one big one.

I live on the west side of Evansville and woke to a low rumbling and the house shaking around me. So much for my nap-time
Third shifters can't ever get any sleep!

Reelfoot lake in Northwest TN was formed by a massive New Madrid quake in the 1800's. I think the quake was measured in the 8's It caused the MS River to flow backwards which in turn formed Reelfoot Lake. I live in Memphis and I got earthquake insurance on my new home just to be safe.

I live on the west side of Evansville as well and happened to be on my lunch break when it happend. I missed everything shaking on the inside but my boss said it sounded like a car ran into the side of the building. I was getting ready to walk into a large office building and heard a large rumble then saw all of the windows rattling. :Q

Largest quake we have had around here before was in 1909 and measured a 5.4, so this was pretty unexpected.

I live in Bedford, and according to a Doctor at IU, it wasn't the New Madrid Fault. I do the news at our station, and I've got some clips of him saying that it wasn't the NMF.

I can't remember the name of what it was, it's been a bad day :)

He said that we can expect more, possibly more severe.

Better hope it doesn't let loose full force....last time it did the Mississippi river reversed flow because the quake was so powerful....

I live up in Sullivan County, IN, and felt a slight vibration for about 30 to 45 seconds. Since there are some mines nearby, and they regularly cause small vibrations, I didn't think anything was unusual at first, until it kept going for more than 10 seconds - and by the time that I started considering the possibility that I should step outside for safety concerns, the quake stopped.
