Earthquake in NY

I believe NY, Long island just had a small earthquake, probably about 1.5 to 3.0

both me and my mom felt the movement for about 10 seconds... the couch and other things slightly moved and rattle.

we are from California so we have experience with this stuff.

back in 99 or so there was a 6.0 or so that hit the east coast, we felt it in upstate NY, soccerfield rumbled, the lights in the hotell in toronto where my dad wa shook and such

back in 2000 i believe NY had a small 2.5 in the morning i remember feeling it and no one would believe me, until the news reported.

WOuldn't a 6.0 on the East Coast cause massive damage since it was built to withstand it?

no because of where it was centered it basically went unnoticed

i'd assume that the buildings there are designed to withstand wind... as long as the foundation is good and there are adequate lateral reinforcements it should be fine.

<3 plywood shearwalls.

yeah, i been keeping my eye on it.

both of me and my mom where not moving just watching TV on couch and you could feel the couch move and things rattle. the house was not hit by anything and there is no sound of a big bang around the street to cause such a movement, plus it lasted for almost 10 seconds.

I don't know i hope that i'm not wrong, but i was not wrong the last time.

I am on long island and felt nothing.

anything below 3.0 if you are moving you would not feel it.

Also back to the topic of the 6.0 in 99, i don't remember anything like that back in 99, 6.0 would scare the crap out of people...

I been on earthquakes up to 7.2 in Cali

There is a fault running through Lake Erie.

Every once in a while a quake happens. We had a big one back in 1986. I believe it was around a 5 or so. Knocked me to the ground while I was in the library. Scared me pretty good.

I don't remember it but I know my parents have talked about it.

My cat would go nuts just before one of those tremors.

That's how I knew one was about to hit. Usually they are around a 1 or 2 on the scale.

I didn't feel anything at all.

It may have been a big truck going by outside you. 😉

Trust me, i know the difference, the couch didnt like shake, it swifted very small and the fact that two people exactly knew the feeling right away...

the website still has nothing so i dont know... i made a report to the USGS, could possibly be maybe from another earthquake somewhere else in the world that travel through the fault lines...
