I was just watching the news when they broke in with a bullintin of a earthquake. They said it might be a building blowing up. But it was reported from serveral counties. I didn't feel it myself, but people here don't normally exazerate.... have you heard anything.....

It was centered in Jackson county, we could feel it here in Huntsville, where Skoorb lives.. According to local news, no injuries or damage reported. It just shook the floors and house a good bit.. Didn't realize what was going on until the news mentioned something..
Gadsden is a good ways away...

3.9 on the scale... People thought it was a tornado or a bomb according to the news... No damage yet reported, about 15 secs, centered in Woodville, Al, a few windows busted is main damage...

You're in HSV, too, cornbread? I traveled there a couple times a year for quite a while, but not any more. Nice town. Home of my favorite street name of all-time, Old Joe Williams Road. :)

A mere tremor. We don't even get out the chair for a 3.9 here in shaky California.

Dunno, Red, a lot of people don't realize that one of the most active and potentially harmful earthquake fault lines lies basically along I-65 - the New Madrid fault.

Whereas Cali is built to handle earthquakes, very little of the Midwest is. Something that might not bug Californa too much could be catastrophic.

I didn't realize what was going on till it started hitting the news..I heard something and felt it but didn't think much of it... But it IS a big thing for here...We're not used to any earthquakes...

I've seen a documentry about that Fault. When it hits (there's no doubt it will) there is going to be some major rock n rolling going on. More like one of those major Alaskan Earthquakes. I hope nobody loses sleep dwelling on it;)

Well you can bet we'll be there helping them pick up the pieces just like they were there for us in the '89 quake.

From the WAAF link: "Huntsville Police need people to stop calling 911. The calls are clogging up the emergency system." See, if they just used ATOT, they could skip calling 911.

Didn't realize there were this many N. Alabama peeps here on ATOT.

Btw, some people probably didn't notice (like me) because they were watching the 5A state football championship on TV...pretty good game, 17-13 with 7:30 left in the 4th ;)

If I actually felt it, I probably would have thought it was a rocket test, but some people here go nuts when anything happens...you should see the weathermen sometime :)
