Well, it was kind of out in the middle of nowhere, so probably no big deal.

Looks like a massive quake, hope Barfo and others are doing fine.
I work in floor 38 in a pretty tall building and let me tell you, it was pretty damn terrifying. I even got motion sick.

On the bright side we were evacuated so I got a work out going down all those stairs and I was sent home early.

The very Damaging Mexico City quake of close to a decade or so ago, also came from equally far away, but it sure did a number on Mexico City. That is built on poorly consolidated sediments.

But still, I believe this quake is simply part of the rifting process extending from Bahia California all the North to San Fransisco, and then all the way up to Alaska.

Thankfully this fairly large quake did not cause huge loss of life. But when two large plates are moving relative to each other, 1.5 to 3 inches per year, the danger potential is there.
