I was just looking at my monthly statement, and they raised the price of my monthly DSL by $10.00 without telling me! WTF! I've been on hold with them listening to classical music for the last 15 minutes or so while waiting to talk with a live person... If you use Earthlink, be sure to check your statements!

Same thing happened to me. Let me know if you have any luck bringing it back down to $40. Is there any law saying that can't do this? Do we have the right to complain and force them to bring it back to $40. I could always threaten to end the service if they don't drop it back down...It literally gives me the incentive now to get Cablevision Cable modem for $40 instead of $50...

Mine got raised too. I saw it in one of those emails they spam you with though about a month ago so I knew it was coming.

personally I got emails stating that the price was going to change. First came a warning email then came the email when the price actually changed.

I finally got off the phone with them. They informed me a letter went out March 1st informing people the rates were going to increase this month. They said their monthly dial-in access was increased by $2.00, and DSL went up $10.00! That sucks, but I can live with it. I have a fast connection with them, and it is up about 98% of the time.

Thanks. Mine is very fast as well and has been up 100% of the time (at least that I know of...never had any problems) for over a year.

Here is the letter...

Dear EarthLink DSL Subscriber,

Here at EarthLink, we value your business and we are committed to giving you the highest level of service and support. Part of this commitment means never surprising you with bad news on your monthly credit card statement. So, we want to let you know about some upcoming changes in pricing for your basic DSL service.

As of March 1, 2001, the monthly cost for all *new* EarthLink DSL subscriptions is $49.95. This is the first time that EarthLink has raised its price for DSL since we started offering it in October, 1999.

When you first subscribed to EarthLink DSL, you did so at a fixed-term commitment. This term is about to end, and when it does your rate will go up to the regular monthly charge of $49.95.

Like every other Internet service provider, EarthLink's costs have gone up significantly. It's now much more expensive for us to rent phone wires from your local phone company in order to provide you with DSL service.

At the same time, we're always striving to upgrade our product line with exciting new technologies, improve dependability, and maintain our award-winning service and support.

We apologize for any inconvenience this increase might cause, and want to assure you that EarthLink remains committed to providing you the best broadband service at the best possible value.

If you have any questions regarding this price increase, please do not hesitate to give us a call at 1-888-847-4708, or email us at dslbilling@earthlink.net.

Sincerely,

The EarthLink Broadband Customer Service Team

Yeah, I got that email as well, it sucks, but it is my best option for high speed access, at least in my area.
