Earthlink just raised my dsl rate from 40 to 50 bucks per month. They didn't send any warning at all, just the higher price on my credit card statement. I called them up and they said "that's just our new pricing". Anyone have any ideas of what I can do if anything?

They don't have to. It's their company, and the reserve the right. You don't like it? Get a new company. Either way, quit your bitching.

Yes I agree with this statement except it was kinda harsh :)

They reserve the right to up your rate when they please. Usually they give you a warning. As with Cox@home gave us warning about a $5 increase.

whats up your ass?

You seriously think its proper to raise rates and then charge them without any notification at all?

The days of cheap bandwidth are over, you might as well get used to it.

That having been said I find it a little strange that they charged you the higher price without some sort of notification (e-mail, snail-mail, whatever).

Viper GTS <-- Would gladly pay $100 for DSL or cable.

They did the same thing to me nippyjun and I was told by the rep when I signed up that it was 40 for the life of the account but apparently he told me the incorrect thing according to some higher ups. More like he threw me the bait and I took it. Call back and complain and they probably give you a month credit just to keep you happy. Fifty bucks is the going rate for residential DSL now anyways but I still know how you feel especially when you probably thought it was going to be $40 for good.

here's a link for you if your really pissed and want to complain.

It's not very good PR to raise rates w/o notice. But I bet there is a part of the contract you signed w/them that says something like "we reserve the right to adjust rates w/o notice."

You guys get raped in the US... That's almost 80$ CDN a month. I love broadband, but I'd find something else to do if it cost me 80$ a month for net access...

The ugly tree and it's roots. The company RESERVES THE RIGHT. What part of "reserves the right" don't you understand? Go back and read your agreements that you signed -read the fine print.

They can change the price when they want, but this is a bait and switch, i.e. illigal. Promising something and then changing it.
