Yea, it works real well. Known spam goes to a seperate folder as well as suspect email. People that aren't on your allow list get challanged to authenticate their email so it can go to your inbox, or you can move it there yourself and put their address on a whitelist for future emails.
You still have to check the suspect email folder occasionally so you don't lose important messages, but all in all it helps alot.

I use Earthlink dialup but I do not use any of their software; I configure my own browser, news and email software.

However Earthlink does have spam blocking options for all users including those like me not using their software. It works pretty well. I rarely use their web-based email, but I just checked what was filtered - 129 spam messages since 02/08/2005 - 3 days worth. My Earthlink spam blocking is set to "medium"; I've never tried the "high" setting.
