Went to my chiropractor the other day and he was promoting earthing.

For those who do not know: Earthing is basically grounding yourself which supposedly allows your body to readjust to a new level of functioning. They want you to sleep on grounded sheets and wear grounded shoes. This alledgedly removes all sorts of static and other charges that your body took on.

Is this just a fad or is there any truth to this?

Outside of delicate electronics assembly or, working on the Hindenburg, I'm struggling to see what the benefit would be.
The benefit to the chiropractor would be several extra visits per client. Maybe 3 visits to explain this earthing process and then of course the regular realignearthing visits that continue for the rest of your life.

A GOOD chiropractor can work wonders for a back injury...but some of these new-age quacks are........way out there.

MIGHT there be some benefit to "earthing?" Sure...but there's just as much chance it's just quackery...pseudo-science, snake oil.

(dammit, this time of year, I'm a walking lightning bolt. My wife and dogs won't let me touch them unless I ground myself first...<ZAP!> Must be my electric personality. :D )

There is probably some placebo effect to be gained if you're the right sort of person, and that isn't to say it doesn't "work."

Did he just happen to have some grounded sheets and grounded shoes in his back room that he could sell you?

It works GREAT, but you must smear your entire body with baby diarrhea to ensure the proper contact with the sheets that will allow electrons to flow freely. Think of it like using thermal paste to install a heatsink on your CPU. Give it a try.

Careful. If you ground yourself like that, the e meter won't read properly. It costs a fortune to have them repair your soul, but you get a free bonus rank with every soul repair, so it isn't all bad I guess.
