That would be good. Right now we are looking at a major nuke accident every 50 years that has an effect of 20k or more years. If we could stretch the accident rate out a bit it would be nice.

Every recent model of population growth I've seen has the global number plateauing somewhere around 9-10 billion. I don't think that would be enough to get the US up to 600 million.

BTW, Chernobyl isn't "over"... the initial sarcophagus is falling into disrepair and the replacement unit was never finished. The plant itself is still a massively-radioactive slag pile. 🙁

The solution they gave it was better than a cheap Fukushima "band-aid" but it's almost impossible to fix so it's either tack on another temporary solution and wait another 20 years or spend astronomical money to fix it for 50-100 years instead of only ~20-25.

Fukushima's "meh, gazillion holding tanks plus quietly dump it in the ocean" approach depresses me to no end.

Pity a couple large groups out there want to control the planet by way of sheer numbers... long-term worries of killing off ~75% of the world population from overpopulation issues doesn't seem to enter the game-plan.

We're still little better than hairless monkeys who've come up with a few clever gadgets along the way... still hopelessly enslaved to emotion and instinct.

Hey, I'm all for new technology that's cleaner, better, more gooder-er. 😉 I remember reading about large-scale energy storage which would be awesome! Correct the biggest flaw in all of our energy system - what isn't used immediately is lost forever.

Pity some of those corporate bigwigs I mentioned earlier have a vested interest in CURRENT technology, thus will stifle advancement to maximize profits.

I think the bolded for most third world nations isn't quite fair. There are isolated instances such as Red China and the Soviet Union where it's a conscious decision to trade pollution in return for building raw might, but there's a lot to be said (including in China) for keeping one's belly full and one's children growing rather than starving. Environmental protection is a luxury in mankind's existence, and many nations haven't had sufficient free markets to afford that luxury. If slash & burn & move on is all one can afford, that's what one will do. That is true for every people, race, culture, nation and whatever semi-arbitrary classification we can make.

If Goverment was limited, we'd have a chance. Our country has thrived for 200 years with limited Government.

Today we have Government run amok. They steal from people, kill people, are corrupt, and expensive.

There are no limits on Government today, when our Constitution and Bill of Rights feared Government.
