Earned my Man Card - Oil Change

Estrella

Senior member
Changed my oil for the first time with the help of my friend.

If there was not plastic crap on the bottom of my 2005 A4 3.0L Cab, then it would have taken less than ten minutes.

i didn't think you got the man card until you changed two diffs and your manual tranny...

you needed someone to help you change oil?

Question, my current residence does not allow me to work on my car, and I'm not driving back to the family house to do so... Does paying a local dealer to do it out of laziness revoke my man card?

Hmm. Good start. I award you 1/4 of a man card.

Come back to claim another 1/4 when you've changed your spark plugs.

😛

Haha you should see what I've done on diesel gen sets. 😱

We call them TomBoy Cards. 😛

I dunno, in today's metrosexual fashion Jon and Kate world, an oil change is pretty manly. There are more manly things, but I don't think any of us are Mike Rowe.

I did my oil change, spark plugs, oil filter, and fuel filter by myself and by learning by myself... I still don't have a man card, and nor do you. >.>

Your lack of a man card has more to do with your inability/lack of desire to actually act like of man than anything to do with auto maintenance.

I'm earning mine.... intake gasket replacement on my '96 Suburban 5.7L about a month ago. Now working on replacing the head gasket of my '99 Saturn. Once I get that done, I think I'll be ok. However the next step will probably be an imminent engine replacement on my wife's Saturn. Once you own an engine hoist, I don't think anybody can question your Man Card. 🙂

lol this. your other threads are 1000% proof of why you are man-card-less, trident.

Good job, I changed my oil today as well and tightened the A/C & P/S belt. Next week gotta take off the heat guard for the exhaust because it's rattling at certain RPM's. Keep up the good work.

get over yourself^

Even if it is dirt shit easy, there are plenty of reasons to do have a friend around/helping:
a)an immediate,"You're doing it wrong."
b)spending time with a friend you probably wouldn't otherwise see
c)someone to stand there to push against because some asshole put the oil pan nut on wayyyyyyy too tightly.
d)friend has tools you don't have
e)I would rather not figure it out and some how screw something up when I can just ask a quick question

Yes, but that assumes you have a friend to come help you. This is Trident we're talking about.

You don't get a man card until you've been on your back under your car and rested the trans on your chest while you get it out and back in.
