I havent really been on woot.com....I just linked over for a second and saw this...since I got my 1.8T I was thinking ... is this thing worth getting?

not many good reviews anywhere about it, or radar detectors for that matter. What this one in particuluar blocks against, or what it doesnt block. Im not sure whats out there...cop-bandwise or whatever.

Isn't it true that radar detectors are activated when they are hit by the radar gun for police?

Isn't it true that the police use the radar guns to gauge the speed you are going at that instant as to determine if you are going faster than the legal limit?

Ergo, isn't it true that the only purpose that radar detectors serve is to tell you that you have just been tagged and have the possibility of being pulled over and not merely a warning system that a radar detector is in use in your area?

Oftentimes, the police will leave their radar on constantly. Not typically true with laser. Typically with laser, by the time your detector goes off, you = screwed.

if your in traffic and the cop is using that method (instant on radar) when he uses it on people in front of you then you'll be alerted. In most states cops can only guage your speed with the instant on they must get a full 3 second lock with radar to give you an actual ticket.

Some claim to be sensitive enough to detect the radar after it has bounced off of vehicles ahead of you, before the cop even looks at you. If that happens, then you may have enough time to slow down or speed up a lot faster than the cop can go.

In car units are basically on all the time in allowed areas, so it will pick up the radar from them from a significant distance. Cops need a 3 second lock here, so basically you should always be able to slow down in time...

But dare i say it, if you plan to speed in urban areas you deserve to have your car taken away anyways ;)

I can't say. Radar Detectors are illegal in my state.

I did spray my car with some radar absorbant paint though(like the stuff they use on the B2 and F117As). Also my cloaking device helps out in getting away in high speed chases if they manage to ping me with laser.

I think they are using a some from a taycon detection grid or maybe anti-proton beams. :p
