Early results look good for Dems

(CNN) -- Polls have closed in some Eastern states that could offer clues about Democrats' chances of ending years of Republican domination in Congress.

Among the early winners projected by CNN in the Senate were Republican Sen. Richard Lugar in Indiana and independent candidate Bernie Sanders in Vermont.

Why would not winning the Senate not look good for the Dems. Picking up ANY seats there is a victory. I heard very few people claim the dems even had a chance there. It is the House most are looking at.

Considering they didn't even run against Lugar (I should know, it was on my ballot), I hardly think any projections at this early stage mean anything. You need to give them time to add up the vote.

Byrd is in also. That's not really a surprise though. Keep an eye on Virginia though... it's going back and forth every time another precinct reports. It's gonna be down to the wire.

Sanders has been there for a while as an independent. Not a big surprise. Lieberman will also be serving as an independent. Both will/do vote with the Dems.

Sanders has been there for a while as an independent. Not a big surprise. Lieberman will also be serving as an independent. Both will/do vote with the Dems.

But Lieberman is a good man and did not deserve the treatment he has received.

Excellent! Of all the seats in the Senate I hoped the Dems would pick up, I wanted Santorum out the most. That guy is 500 years behind the times.

They just explained that on CNN. They're calling the elections basing on the fact that these are the poll numbers when analyzing ALL of the Republican-favored districts. One can only assume that in Dem-favored districts, the votes will go the way of Menendez.

yeah, nothing from Hudson county, the second most populous county in NJ and probably one of the highest concentration of democcrats per square mile in the nation.
