Early Plextor SCSI 8x/20x cdr and clonecd?

I got the plextor 8x/20x right when it came out but apparently on the clonecd website it says it will only work with drives after
(Only units manufactured after March 1999 (those which came with Firmware 1.03 or later) will work!)

I have the newest firmware installed 1.07 and was wondering if this statement is true? This really sux, anyone know why this would be? Anyone have a early plex and used clonecd LMK plz. If I can't use clonecd, I might have to buy a new cdrw. I am probably gonna get the Iomega 12x4x32x ide. This drive should be fully clonecd compatible correct? thx

One way to tell is try it on a game with copy protection, UT is a good test. The plextor should have a manufacture date sticker on the top.

That will be 2 burners that possibly dont work with CloneCD. Go to there web site and check out there recommended hardware list, Iomega isn't one of them.

The burner is only half the hareware required by CloneCD, if you dont have one of the recommended readers then get one or go for one of the recommended single divices.

If you want to use a single device for reading and writing, we recommend:

I have the Imation drive also, flashed to Plex. (Mine came with firmware 1.03) I am using the latest firmware (1.07) and just tried out CloneCD with it. Seems to work fine. I burned a copy of Myst Masterpiece Edition and played off of the copy with no problems. Now I have no idea if it will work with protected games and don't know it Myst is one. Is Halflife??

Anyway I'd say if your Imation came with the 1.03 firmware originally it &quot;should&quot; work.

i have the 8/20 and the latest firmware and use clone cd all of the time no problems

Do you have one of the early models? - those are the ones that (supposedly) aren't CloneCD compatible. I have an early model. If you're burner shipped w/ firmware v3, then it's okay. Mine came with v1. Bad. But I haven't even tried.
