I was just browsing monarchcomputer.com and on the listing for the AMD Athlon 64 3800+, the price is $424. It says that is an early AMD price drop and the CPU's will begin shipping Feb 16th. The 3500+ has dropped to $272. Is the official announcent Wednesday then? Interesting.

STEAL???

Not really, kinda pricy. A mobile XP still offers better bang for buck.

OC both 2500Mhz performance of XP is 25% slower. But it's price is 100% less.

Really a 939 3000 should cost $100 when mobile 2400's are $75 if we use price/performance as our guide.

And we hav'nt even gotten to the ripoff motherboards yet on skt 939, almost double price there too, and triple for NF4.

I just bought an OEM A64 3200+ (939) for $169 shipped from monarch.

I figured it might drop a little more, but I woud rather get it now than wait.

Yeah I was going to buy the 3200+ winchester retail last week but heard about the supposed 2/14 price cuts so held off...At zipzoomfly the price has gone from $206 to $196 now in a few days so who knows what it'll be at early next week.

Man, if the 3200+ drops maybe to $180 I may get it over the 3000+, just depends on the price difference between them.

If it's really 100% less we should move this to HOT DEALS 'cuz free procs are HOT!!! LOL

( I know what you meant though.)

BTW, Thanks for all your work in here. You have helped me immensely.

PIB = "Processor in a Box".

The price chart says "This listing reflects pricing for direct AMD customers in 1000-unit tray quantities, except when designated as PIB quantities." Notice the except in there, which is the case for A64s. So my guess is that 1 PIB is that price. So, when you buy a quantity of PIBs, the cost should be lower.

I havent seen the prices go down yet, and they are updated 2/14 at 9 am. Prices were consistent with prices from 2/11 (monarch, newegg, etc) VIA Pricewatch

What gives?

Unfortunately it's not instantaneous. It takes a week or two for it to trickle down to the retailers, which sucks big time because I'm in the market for one.

how come when i clicked on it, it says its 435?

another question:

why is it called a 3800+ when the operating frequency is 2.4 ghz and the l2 cache is 512 when the sckt 754 3400+ operating frequency is also 2.4ghz and the l2 cache is also 512?

same freq and l2 cache should have very similar performance levels no? even if sckt 939 was better, it couldnt be 400+ better at the same freq and cache...
