Yes, it is quite ridiculous, because we (Anandtech forums) seem to have a number of trolls, in these forums.

Although I get the distinct impression, that some of them are using multiple accounts, to reduce the pain of vacation/bans.

What else is there to do but troll in an off topic forum.

I thought the idea was that we could have useful discussions and stuff.

But it also doesn't help, having all these TROLL accounts floating about, because they tend to create "silly" topics and/or make silly attention seeking posts.

I would suggest escalating warnings/infractions, to 1,2 or 3 temporary vacations/bans, which if ignored, lead to permanent banning.

A sort of three (repeat offence) strikes and your out kind of thing, which many other forums seem to operate (if decently moderated).

The problem is that some of the better quality posters will (or already have) moved on to other forums, out of frustration of all the trolls who are apparently abundant on the forums.
Eventually that can badly damage the quality of the whole forum.

There are so many apparent multi-account posters as well.

If the forum ends up having many troll posters, then it is difficult to stay and/or visit very often.

In my opinion, better quality posters, would tend to steer clear of highly troll ridden forums.

I agree.
I had conflicting requirements, because I needed both quality, and a poster who would leave, if there are too many trolls.

So I chose Rubycon, because they seemed to at least partly fit the quality requirement (e.g. I have really enjoyed some of their exploding Electricity you tube video links, they sometimes provided, and their deep technical explanations of complicated electrical stuff).
But they are probably NOT the best choice, of an example, of a poster who would leave if there are too many trolls.

In fact if it was not for the risk of getting banned I always thought it would be fun to write some bot programs that post. Maybe a parody thread bot, it randomly copies another thread and changes just one random word. Could be amusing. :biggrin:
