what is the best way to get the infections out (aside from physically poking in a qtip or something of the sort). i've had an infected ear ever since Tuesday, went to the doc for some amoxocilin, but as of now, i am pretty much deaf, and my ear is uncomfortable. i will for sure visit the doc tomorrow if whatever is in my ear doesn't come out. i've already tried jumping up and down after showering while shaking my head sideways (the side with the infection). tried sleeping on the side with the infected ear for 2 days. anything else?

Do NOT use q-tips. A doctor once told me to keep the ear dry, in addition to prescribing ear drops and pain medication. Other than that I'm not sure you can do much except wait it out.

uhh you cant just take the infection out. hehe. you have to let it go away... just keep taking the antibiotics and stop poking around. youll pop your eardrum or something.

You can't really "get the infection out."

Unless you think the ear is impacted or something.

When I had an ear infection a few years ago, my ear wasn't bothering me. Then, all of a sudden I became light headed and passed out. Woke up feverish and shivering. Then it passed. Then the swelling began. The side of my face was swollen and red. Pus started to run from the ear. Good times.

Soak a cotton ball in olive oil and put it in your ear. (Not down the hole, just in the sort of hollow your ear makes) Not sure why this works exactly. It may be because it stops oxygen from getting in your ear.

Sounds like fun. Can't wait to go through it one day, if ever.

Oh yeah, if you think its water put some rubbing alcohol in your ear, then let it pour out. What's left will evaporate really quick.

oh man, i've had an ear infection before, but this one's different. sometimes i feel sharp pains on the side of my head or somewhere in my ear, it doesn't itch at all, and nothing gets discharged. oh yea, another weird thing is if i blow my nose, it feels as if all the liquid in my ear is coming out of my nose...

Sounds like an inner ear infection. You need antibiotics.

Pray it isn't a middle ear infection, A.K.A. Labrynthitis. You lose your sense of balance, permanently.

I had gone swimming and I guess there was water in my ear. I don't remember noticing it though. The next day was when I passed out.

I ended up seeing 3 different doctors. The medication and painkillers prescribed ramped up with each visit. The best was when they drained my ear. It was awesome, the relief was incredible.

If I were aznmaverick, I would just take my medicine and not screw around with it too much.

Uhm, if yellow stuff started to come out of my nose, and it wasn't snot, I would either be at my pediatrician or the emergency room. Also, because it was coming out of your nose, if it's related to the ear infection, it could mean you have an inner or middle ear infection, and you need to get that looked at.

I used to think that stuff like passing out and swelling and pain in important places would be enough to make me go to the doctor.

Apparently, that's not the case. I waited about a week before I saw a doctor for my ear infection. I was hoping that it would go away. For a while, Aleve helped with the pain and swelling, but after a week, I was in pretty bad shape. :)

Then, I saw a doctor ~ a week for ~ 3 weeks. So much money spent on medicine because I didn't (still don't) have insurance.

Majority of ear infections are inner-ear infections, meaning it's on the other side of your eardrum which you can't get to with a q-tip.

My daughter just had tubes inserted in her ear drums because of chronic ear infections. Amoxicillin worked for the first two, then she had to go on progressively stronger anti-biotics.

It's possible the infection you have is kicking the Amoxicillins ass ;).

Edit: If stuff's coming out your nose, that's actually a good sign. You get the infection when fluid in your ear can't get out through it's usual path which is the eustachian (sp?) tubes that lead from your inner ear to the back of your nose. With stuff coming out, that means the ear is able to drain.

Read this.
