Ear Candles

Browsing through my local hippe organic supermarket recently I came across a product called "ear candles". It is a long beeswax candle and the idea is you take the non-wick end stick it up in your ear and then light the end with the wick on it. Then you sit there with a burning candle sticking out of your ear for an hour and it is supposed to eliminate your ear wax and free your soul.

My ex believed in that and she would show me the wax afterwards. It's just the congealed paraffin from the linen???

It works if you do it right. A lot of people will try to convince you otherwise though.

BUT, an ear wax solvent works better. I have used Debrox, and I think it worked great.

ugh, debrox smells terrrible. I'd rather go to a doc and just my ears irrigated with water. Too chicken to do that shit myself... I'd end up with an ear infection. Had too many of those in my life to jam water up my ear myself. At least with a doc, I can blame them if it goes wrong. :p

that supposed ear wax is in fact from the candle itself.

ear candling is quackery of the highest order.

I was talked into trying this by a girl, I was told that you would see the wax it pulled out. At the time I realized that the wax you see is the friggen Beeswax the silly thing is dipped in - it was obvious. I thought, I can't be the only person not dumb enough to figure this out, so I tried it two more times, and I saw just as much wax. So I was 100% certain it was a scam.

Recently, I read an article that this has been tested and proven to be the beeswax melting and not wax from a person's ear.

One of my co-workers did this at the last place I worked. They swear it worked. I told them just get a dropper and hydrogen peroxide and let it sit for a bit, but were grossed out by that for some reason.

And hundreds of practitioners around the country stand ready to perform the ritual for $25-$60 a session.
Time for a career change.
Encourage stupid people to give up money for something trivial and utterly useless.
Otherwise, they'd just use that money to buy stupid shit, thus increasing the net stupidity in the world. If the Stupid have less money, they have less affluence, thus their Stupid is less likely to affect the rest of the population.

Ear candling is an ancient practice that supposedly removes wax from the ears, thereby improving physical and spiritual well-being.
The path to spiritual cleansing?

Do you people live under a rock? These things have been around for ages.

I've used them before, they are fun, especially looking at all the crap they suck up out of your head afterwards.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Are ear candles stocked next to the bottles of snake oil?

Not as bad as arschrakete. Although the (latter) is far funnier to watch especially when things go amiss as they often do!

(search for ass rocket on youtube.com if want to see it.)

Well, you'd only think that that crap came out of your head if you had shit for brains in the first place.

For gods sake don't spread this ignorance. A candle flame can't produce a vacuum of anywhere near the strength it would require to suck wax out of your ear. And if it could, it would probably pull your eardrums out with it since ear wax is sticky and stuck pretty well to the ear canal, aided by hairs.
