Each boot video resets brightness?

just started after a format
Winxp Pro Sp2

Basically when computer comes on, the screen is darker than I prefer and I have to go into Poperties, click settings/advanced/color tab and as soon as I click the Color tab, the screen resets back to my preferred brightness setting... Note: I don't change any values in the Color Tab, I just click the tab to bring it up and it automatically resets to the correct brightness....

Any tips on how to have it boot up the correct way is appreciated!
