I honestly expected to see it come out a couple of months after BF4
Main-series Battlefield games will surely remain on an every-other-year schedule, with an off-game, either a BF side-game or another blockbuster filling in the gaps.
Hardline is their off-cycle BF property, but oddly enough, it's late to the party. That's how much EA doesn't care about it this time around... hopefully this in-betweener is superior to all the failed reboots of MoH. I got suckered into the last one - it might be decent now, but I suspect not... it simply felt like crap on KB&M, and gameplay really wasn't that exciting (for multiplayer, at least... never touched the campaign).
I gotta admit, I haven't been following the game community much at all lately, and this is the first time hearing of Battlefront. I couldn't really give two shits if it's a Star Wars property, it's DICE... and it's different. It might have the conventions of Star Wars, but it's a possible all-out warfare game that isn't restricted to 21st Century Earth.
...
Wait a tick... I totally misread those years.
They're finally letting Battlefield BREATH a moment, and not release a proper sequel in the expected Fall 2015? Well shit, color me surprised.
And thankful.
And yet... it sounds like they are doing exactly that.

It's basically Battlefield under a different flag, and that's fine by me. I don't mind BF3 and BF4 and expect BF5 to be more of the same concept (hopefully refreshing in some way, this time), but I definitely want the Battlefield concept in a different setting.
This makes sense in a lot of ways - Battlefield was not really the series to really make an annual series, and they knew that from the start, so they spaced it out and filled in the gaps in the year between each release with a title that was meant to take on CoD in a more exacting style. But I think DICE and the community has made it clear that the BF property can't be rehashed so simply, even every other year.
SF: Battlefront will give DICE the room to stretch out and break the monotony... I wouldn't doubt if it's more enjoyable than and rewarding than BF. And I like BF.
