When I was making the OP I couldn't find any links to fill the post out, just now they started to pop up.

battlefront game made with hud/controls of the last trooper game would be very good.

I thought Mirror's Edge would be coming out sooner than that. Eapecially with the teaser at E3. I loved the original despite its flaws. I'm mildly concerned about it being open world. I can see them trying to turn it into their own version of Assassin's Creed.

Ah, I'm amused... was expecting to see Battlefield 5 way before holiday 2016 (such as sometime in 2015 instead). And I sincerely hope that the whole "Battlefront is a FPS" thing implies that the first-person view will only be for troopers / on-foot combat. I want third person for vehicles. If they limit us to first-person for vehicles... eeew.

At this point I only get those at very reduced sale to go through the single player campaigns, so in no rush to get the next one.

My friends are really looking forward to Battlefront. I'll play it if it's fun to play, but the Star Wars setting doesn't really do anything for me.

I honestly expected to see it come out a couple of months after BF4

I was really hoping for a spring release of Battlefront...but oh well...hope they use that time to really polish it. As much hate as BF4 gets around here, I really enjoy it in its current state and look forward to BF5.

I'm holding out hope for BF5. When BF3 dropped, I lost interest, but I know that goodness is in there, somewhere.

I want to love again...

Main-series Battlefield games will surely remain on an every-other-year schedule, with an off-game, either a BF side-game or another blockbuster filling in the gaps.

Hardline is their off-cycle BF property, but oddly enough, it's late to the party. That's how much EA doesn't care about it this time around... hopefully this in-betweener is superior to all the failed reboots of MoH. I got suckered into the last one - it might be decent now, but I suspect not... it simply felt like crap on KB&M, and gameplay really wasn't that exciting (for multiplayer, at least... never touched the campaign).

I gotta admit, I haven't been following the game community much at all lately, and this is the first time hearing of Battlefront. I couldn't really give two shits if it's a Star Wars property, it's DICE... and it's different. It might have the conventions of Star Wars, but it's a possible all-out warfare game that isn't restricted to 21st Century Earth.

...
Wait a tick... I totally misread those years.
They're finally letting Battlefield BREATH a moment, and not release a proper sequel in the expected Fall 2015? Well shit, color me surprised.
And thankful.
And yet... it sounds like they are doing exactly that. :p It's basically Battlefield under a different flag, and that's fine by me. I don't mind BF3 and BF4 and expect BF5 to be more of the same concept (hopefully refreshing in some way, this time), but I definitely want the Battlefield concept in a different setting.

This makes sense in a lot of ways - Battlefield was not really the series to really make an annual series, and they knew that from the start, so they spaced it out and filled in the gaps in the year between each release with a title that was meant to take on CoD in a more exacting style. But I think DICE and the community has made it clear that the BF property can't be rehashed so simply, even every other year.
SF: Battlefront will give DICE the room to stretch out and break the monotony... I wouldn't doubt if it's more enjoyable than and rewarding than BF. And I like BF.

Surprised to hear that BF5 is two years out.

That's not bad either:

1) Franchise milking like COD can become nauseating;
2) It gives them more time to make a good game and sort out bugs;
3) They probably need the time to evolve physics and graphics as there isn't a great leap to be made on those 2 fronts from BF4 it seems.

Hopefully by then they'll be confident in dumping legacy console support (ps3, 360) so we don't have to deal with their design limitations.
