That's exactly my point.

I understand they want to shut down Pirated games using this method, but in the real world things aren't that simple.

Look at what happened to all those people that bought music off MSN's music server.

What (financial) incentive does a company have to keep these servers up for validating your game?
It's not free to run these servers, and we are talking about EA here after all - look at Madden as just one example.
