EA buys Chillingo(Angry Birds publisher)

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Electronic Arts said Wednesday that it will acquire Chillingo, the company that publishes the ultra-popular smartphone game Angry Birds.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Reuters reported it was worth $20 million.

EA used to be my number one now its Activision (not including their Blizzard branch).

If it was Activision, we would have a new Angry Birds installment every few months reskinned with DLCs attached on.

Seems pretty short sighted.
Its not like Angry Birds was revolutionary.
All they bought was the character concept.

I would hope that a company like EA would have been able to create a cast of characters for a mobile game for less than 20 million, but I guess not.

I think its worth easily over $20 Millions.
Beside continuing on selling millions of the game itself.
All the sequels will bring in millions.
Plus all the merchandises and everything that follows.

Why do you hate EA? They're a lot better than Activision.

I hate EA because they stifle innovation and ruin potentially great gaming companies. More competition is always better for the consumer and rather than putting out a better product, EA tends to just buy the competition so they don't have to worry about quality of product.

Ok. I thought they actually developed the games but there were still some great games released by Chillingo. EA has almost always ruined the games released by publishers and developers they bought. While there have been some gems released by them, their track record is complete crap. What does that say about EA when the first thing most people think upon hearing something like this is that EA will stifle whatever company it acquired?

OP, you should update your post to be more accurate. Chillingo was just the publisher for the ipad and iphone versions of angry birds. EA has no control whatsoever over angry birds as a result of this deal.

I read all the post that EA only bought the publisher.
I was just asking a hypothetical question if the actual Angry Birds franchise was worth $20 millions ??
