EA also had a hand in Dungeon Keepers downfall :|

Bullfrog, I believe, which he mentions in the article, was the creator of Dungeon Keepers.

From the wiki:

Dungeon Keeper 3

Dungeon Keeper 3 was not released. However, some Dungeon Keeper 2 CDs contained a trailer showing some features of Dungeon Keeper 3, amongst them above-land battles. One member of Bullfrog stated on his personal website that Dungeon Keeper 3 was going to be named: War for the Overworld.[1] This project was discontinued because, according to Ernest W. Adams (one of the developers), Bullfrog had decided not to do any other RTS of any kind. This decision was in effect the end of Bullfrog as a brand; the company had already been owned by EA for several years, and EA laid off some employees and put the remainder onto other projects such as the Harry Potter line.[q/]

The big question here is why Bullfrog decided against any more RTS games. I wouldn't be shocked if EA pissed in their pot too much given their history, but it's all speculation on my part.

harry potter instead of working on dungeon keeper.
sigh.
I actually had the chance to work on a project with EA as the publisher.
I went, listened to what they had to say and when they got to the part about "Each week we will submit the current build, cutscenes, animations , to EA for feedback".
I lost interest.

I read the article and while he makes some good points he still lying about some things (or just plain wrong).

The little publishers are doing quite well. Games like Fate and Jets'n'Guns are made for a relatively small budget and sold at 20 bucks a pop, and they are making the little guys rich.

Now if we could only convince the little guys to work on big, hi-quality games which don't focus on graphics (the number 1 development cost) maybe would could experience some good, classic gaming like we had back in the days of Dungeon Keeper, Baldurs Gate and Deus Ex.

But as I've stated before: The current generation of console gamers would rather play pretty crap at 60 bucks per title, and thats the money publishers like EA are gunning for.
Eventually that philosophy trickles down to the PC market.

True there are some small developers still producing some quality stuff.
They have a hard time getting the word out though because they don't have the budget and the ability to pressure gaming sites to promote their titles.

I have a few friends who currently work at large publishers that want to go back to make dedicated titles. Ones that the developers really believe in and are made exactly like the developer wants. Its just tough to give up a guaranteed salary and do something that may not pay the bills after a lot of hard work.

Blah blah blah. I bet the same lines of bullshit in a different package were brought out by EA 10 years ago. They still make to much money selling the madden graphics engine update to change their stripes.

Man I loved that game, Dune 2 was another favorite and the Wing Commander series. Seriously destroying Bullfrog, Westwood and Origin left me real sour, Im sure they don't care about just one person, it'll take a few years before I change my mind about EA. Though impossible I wish they'd rehire those developers and resurrect these studios.

However, I still haven't forgotten about EAs past employment practices, EA Spouse anyone?

I quote those 3 studios among others as part of the reason for my general boycott of EA products.
